Hi, my name is Jerry Jaffe and I'm running for City Council in Painesville. For the past 12 years I have been teaching at Lake Erie College.
In over 25 years of experience teaching college classes and working at some of the best universities in the world, it has been my mission to change people's lives. As an a acting coach and director, I've worked extensively with both my individual students as well as the communities I live in. Painesville is the most culturally diverse city in Lake County, and America's colleges are leaders in addressing diversity issues. As an ally, I can use this experience to help Painesville. As a theatre artist with international credits and over 100 productions on 3 continents, I am used to working collaboratively to get things done. Theatre is not only a team sport where everyone involved has to work towards a common goal, it is a surprisingly practical one. From building sets to learning lines, from grant-writing to managing budgets, and the excitement of opening night, plays are very outcome oriented. I am a person who works hard as part of a team to achieve group goals. Besides theatre being a community event, I have spent time volunteering for organizations like the American Cancer Society and Geauga Lyric Theatre while providing support to organizations like Project Hope and the Cleveland Food Bank.
I am hard-working and dedicated to making a change for Painesville's residents, especially lower income families in need as well as our many diverse groups and populations. Let's grow Painesville's economy and encourage new business of all sizes, but the growth of our economy also depends on the ability of our residents to have capital to spend and circulate. Landlords need tenants who can pay their rent and restaurants need hungry patrons with income for dining out. Helping elevate the middle class IS helping Painesville's economy grow. I will fight every day to find resources, grants, and agencies that will empower ALL of the residents of Painesville. I want to bring additional revenue to the city and elevate our standard of living by growing our arts and culture. Arts and culture provides endless ways to celebrate the diversity in our city. Also, companies looking to establish offices and facilities often list the cultural scene of cities as one of their priorities. Arts in NEO is an 8 billion dollar a year activity and theatre itself generates nearly 1 billion dollars worth of activity for the region, yet Painesville City does not actively participate in either. The Arts represent an investment opportunity that can bring jobs and revenue to the city while raising the standard of living for everyone.
Because I can bring leadership and experience to the City Council and will work as an ally to diverse populations in the city including low-income families and small business owners, I ask that on November 2 you vote for me, Jerry Jaffe, for City Council.
